Minutes from the February 28, 2009 Meeting
Administrative:
Attendance: Kaye MacDonald,Tim Phillips,John Gorys, Tom Bastion, Evelyn Furman
Absent: Gordon Lewis, Bill Sikkenga, Roger Buckingham
Tim Phillips called the meeting to order at 10:05 am
Secretary minutes: motion to approve John Gorys second by Kaye MacDonald. There were no additions or corrections minutes approved.
Treasurers report: No report presented in the absence of Bill Sikkenga.
OLD Business:
Tim reviewed the topics from the February 7, 2009 meeting.
· Loss of trustee- see attachment list- list of tasks
· Signs Tim will take care of this project before annual meeting
· Picnic- tabled until next meeting
· Annual report-under discussion
· Participants for Fishing Expos McComb County-Steve Oxley , TimMcKeon
· Grayling Expo- John Gorys, Tim Phillips and Dave Gendler needs an additional person
· Tom Bastion Bug Study
· Raffle Tickets mailed the end of April or 1st of May
· Speakers for the annual meeting- Dave Gendler brought up the issue of water conservation and the Nestle Company. It appears Nestle wishes to reopen their contract looking for a “better deal”. The Michigan Citizen Water Conservation has become involved and is looking for support from other Watersheds. Tom reminded the Council that it was our decision not to express our concern as an organization. However, we were welcome to become involved as individuals. Tabled until we look further for other speakers.
· Discussion return to having Allan Steinman as a speaker.
· New DNR fisheries supervisor in Manistee
· Tim questioned to annual report-this appears after the annual meeting, newsletters generally are complied twice a year.
· Web Site & newsletter information- Joyce Durdel is currently looking at this project. She feels links can be made to other Watershed etc. Also this would allow information to be put on line letting permitting to membership knowledge on current events and what is coming in the future.
· Information relating to the newsletter or website will be passed thru John and he will rely it to Joyce, therefore keep your information as succinct as possible.

· Dues structure- the discussion ensued with several scenarios brought forth. The $5.00 increase in dues was thought acceptable. Other questions arose the decision to table until next meeting was finally decided upon.
· Tom Bastion “bug study”. Tom indicated there was a need to replace nets. The motion to replace the nets was made by John and seconded by Dave. All agreed to the purchase-motion carried. Joyce has offered to sponsor this program on May 2, 2009. It will be held at the Elk Twp. Hall in the afternoon after the council meeting. Bass Lake Rd-near Fox Bridge.
New Business
- Driftwood project is near completion. Tim contacted Trout Unlimited in Detroit provided them with the invoice and requested Bob Thorenson send the check to Little Manistee Watershed at our postal box number.
- Project Permitting Process- Streamside System- Chris is attempting to obtain Information from this company-project is on hold. Many of the Council Members are getting upset with them “dragging their feet”. John will attend the April 14, 2009 Partnership meeting in Cadillac.
- An attempt to have our organization commit to fish structure at Fox Bridge. They would like to employ our membership, introduce them to the methods and structure design we have utilized in the past. We need to get any picture that might be available from Gordon taken at the Indian club project.
-We need to keep CRA for permitting projects they oversee.
- Chris wishes to do a float when the weather breaks. It appears there is approximately 12 sites that currently needs examining, there may be more later on.

- Natural Rivers is being looked at again- however we are going to wait for clarification.
- Next meet will be April 4th, 2009 Eden Twp. Hall at 9:00am. More information at a future date.
