Minutes from the October 3, 2009 Meeting
Eden Twp. Hall, Irons, Mi.
Administrative: Tim Phillips called the meeting to order at 9:00 am.
Attendance: Roger Buckingham, Jim Squier, Gordon Lewis, David Spruance, John Gorys, Tim Phillips, Dave Gendler, Evelyn Furman Minutes from the September 5, 2009 Gordon Lewis made the motion to approve, second Jim Squier and John Gorys. No corrections were made, minutes stand approved. Treasurer Report: John read report sent by Bill Sikkinga- motion to approve made by David and seconded by John hearing no dissentions treasurer report stands approved. Tim reviewed the projects status, listing sites that have been completed and those that are pending please keep your copy of the projects and being to future meetings.Old Business:
New signs- Dave Gendler stated there was no new progress. Treasurer- Doug Mann- his name was suggested John or Tim will speak with him. Website update- please remit information to Joyce and she will publish on the site. You will need to write your information as you wish it to appear. Keep format simple, no fancy stuff as it does not transfer easily to the website.Salmon in the Classroom- students were bused to the weir on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. They experienced the milking of the fish and had the opportunity to explore the area under the tutelage of the DNR. These students were really enjoying putting their hands inside the fish in order to feel the heart, lungs and other organs, what a group! They were presented with eggs for both aquariums at the school. We will monitor the displays and children comments as they appear, that is with the help of their teacher Mr. Wojo.
Property Owner contact- currently there is no interest in this project.Grant Possibilities- Patagonia, the Robert Pitman Act- also Nate and CRA.
We will need to obtain some grants in order to complete some of the future site that is listed in your project report. We could also look to the Little Band of Ottawa Indians to help with a couple of site for Brook Trout habitat. New Business: Handicap access- the weir has been identified as a site for the handicap. Currently there is concern over the eagles nest, and the protected eagles that reside just below the weir. A great deal of discussion regarding the positioning of the access, and the wildlife that could be disturbed. People are unsure that this is a good area for the site. Currently, there is no decision has been made with regards to this project. Dave will be the contact on this matter. DNR in Baldwin was having an open house in order to discuss sites in Eden and Newkirk which could affect the Watershed. October 13, 2009 4-7pm. John and Jim could possibly attend. Annual meeting is tentatively scheduled for July 10, 2010 at Skinner Park.Discussed prizes: kayaks
